- Workshop and site safety
- Identifying personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Industry guidance and Health and Safety
- Discussion re environmental issues
- Chainsaw components identified and inspected
- Routine chainsaw daily maintenance
- Operating chainsaw safely and effectively
- Understanding risk assessments and emergency procedures
- Selecting and preparing equipment used for felling
- Felling small trees (between 200mm and 380mm), including trees that lean slightly away from direction of fall
- Taking down hung up trees
- Safe use of hand tools
- Removing branches (snedding) safely and effectively
- Cross-cutting and conversion
- Stacking timber and manual handling
What equipment do I need?
- Balanced Safety Helmet – (EN397/EN352-3/EN1731)
- Chainsaw protective trousers – (EN381-5)
- Chainsaw protective gloves – (EN388/EN381-7)
- Chainsaw protective boots – (EN345-2)
- Personal first aid Kit
- Whistle
- Rear handled chainsaw with a recommended guide bar length of 380mm (15”)
- Maintenance tool kit for chainsaw
- Fuel and chain oil (please ensure you have enough for the entire course)
- Felling lever with cant hook, wedges (plastic or Aluminium)
- Wet weather clothing and packed lunch each day

are based on a minimum of four people per course, if there are less
than four people, the cost per person will be higher.
