Do I need any prior qualifications (pre-requisites) for this course? No – but if using a chainsaw you must have NPTC unit CS30
What does this course cover?
- Understanding risk assessments and emergency procedures
- Identifying personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Industry guidance and Health and Safety
- Identifying / inspecting machine components & guarding
- Discussion of towed, tracked & PTO chippers
- Daily maintenance of chippers
- Changing / setting of chipper knives
- Pre-start checks
- Safe operation of chippers
- Safe clearance of machine blockages
- Safe posture and working positions
- Discussion - replacing / tensioning tracks
- Cleaning / inspection of chippers
What equipment do I need?
- Balanced Safety Helmet – (EN397/EN352-3/EN1731)
- Non-snag clothing
- Protective work boots
- Gloves
- Hi-visibility jacket or vest
- Wet weather clothing and packed lunch each day
- Chainsaw users will also need:
- Chainsaw protective trousers – (EN381-5)
- Chainsaw protective gloves – (EN388/EN381-7)
- Chainsaw protective boots – (EN345-2)
- Personal first aid Kit
- Whistle
- Rear handled chainsaw with a recommended guide bar length of 380mm (15”)
- Maintenance tool kit for chainsaw
- Fuel and chain oil (please ensure you have enough for the entire course)
Prices are based
on a minimum of four people per course, if there are less than four
people, the cost per person will be higher.
