Do I need any prior qualifications (pre-requisites) for this course? Yes - NPTC units CS30, CS31, (CS38) climb trees & perform aerial rescue & CS39
What does this course cover?
- Identifying personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Industry guidance and Health and Safety
- Pre-climb inspection and planning
- Discussion of environmental issues
- Safe and efficient climbing techniques
- Safe movement & work positioning within the crown of the tree
- Tree access and selection of main / secondary anchor points & redirects
- Understanding good crown thinning & crown reduction work
- Understanding different pruning cuts
- Safe and efficient use of the hand tools & the top handled chainsaw
- Accurate cutting & removal of branches
What equipment do I need?
- Balanced Safety Helmet with chinstrap– (EN397/EN352-3/EN1731)
- Chainsaw protective trousers, all round protection is recommended – Type C – (EN381-5)
- Chainsaw protective work boots - (EN345-2)
- Sit harness (WPB) or Full body Harness – (prEN813/BSEN361)
- Arborists' climbing rope (min 10mm dia) low stretch rope – (BS4928/prEN1891)
- Prussik loops/rope, split tails and strops of same standard/construction as climbing rope
- Minimum of four self locking, triple action (three distinct movements to open) karabiners
- Personal First Aid Kit
- Whistle
- Knife with retractable blade
- Top handled chainsaw (AFAG 308) plus maintenance tool kit
- Fuel and chain oil (please ensure you have enough for the entire course)
- Handsaw and scabbard
- Wet weather clothing and packed lunch each day
- NB: A copy of current LOLER inspection form for all climbing equipment
What will this cost me? - £140.00 (Prices are based on a minimum of four people per course, if there are less than four people, the cost per person will be higher.)
