Do I need any prior qualifications (pre-requisites) for this course? Yes - a valid UK driving licence
What does this course cover?
- Discussing different types of 4x4 vehicles & their characteristics
- Legal requirements & understanding risk assessment
- Identifying personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Industry guidance and Health and Safety
- Discussion of environmental issues
- Identifying / inspecting machine control / components
- Daily maintenance & pre-start checks
- Preparing a vehicle for off road driving
- Driving and handling a 4 x 4 vehicle on different terrain & surfaces
- Understanding different vehicle recovery techniques
- Safe wheel changing off-road
- Effects of loading a 4 x 4 vehicle
- Off-road trailer work
- Safe use of winches & winch equipment
- Prepare vehicle for return to on-road driving
- Cleaning / inspecting of 4 x 4 vehicle after use
What equipment do I need?
- A 4 x 4 vehicle in good working order with manufacturer's hand book (Vehicle available at extra cost) (Complying with Department of transport & Road Traffic Act)
- Work boots offering good support and grip
- Non-snag outer clothing
- Wet weather clothing and packed lunch
- Please note: a winch recovery vehicle and trailer will be available
What will this cost me? - Please call for details; costs vary depending on requirements. Prices are based on a minimum of four people per course, if there are less than four people the cost per person will be higher.
